The Democrats "Stimulus-Rescue" plan has now topped $1 trillion, according to the Congressional Budget Office. And tonight, the Senate Conservatives Fund has released text of the proposed version of the bill.
Here are some numbers/items (remember, all in the name of "saving jobs, and saving America's economy"):
Page 41: The Coast Guard wants more than $572 million for "Acquisition, Construction, & Improvements" They claim these funds will create 1,235 new jobs. Crunch the numbers and this brings the cost of "creating" each job to a staggering $460,000+
Page 23: $200 million for Dep. of Defense to acquire alternative energy vehicles.
Page 32: $1.5 billion (with a "B") for a "carbon-capturing contest"
Page 64: $3.5 billion for higher education facilities. This is ridiculous as I know in Georgia the Board of Regents has imposed a "temporary" (yea right!) $75 fee per student during this economic crisis. The funds from this per-student fee stays at the school and is used to offset current budget shortfalls.
We at AASU are starting construction on our new student center, all paid for by student fees. No tax money has been used during any process of this planning. How about asking other higher education institutions to do the same, or hold off on any renovations, additions, etc.?
Page 90: $2.25 billion for "affordable and low-income housing".
Page 91: $1.5 billion for "homelessness prevention activities".
And finally, the big kicker, via Page 61: $75 million for smoking cessation programs.
I say "the big kicker" because aren't Congressional Dems counting on smokers to fund their universal health care plan? If this cessation program is successful, who's going to fund the lost revenue from falling tobacco sales?
America, call your Representatives. There is no reason not to, nothing more important. Call them, tell them no. The pork and excessive spending in this bill are beyond belief. This bill cannot be allowed to pass. Be ready to contact your Senators later this week as well.

The Washington Times is reporting that the National Parks Service is set to receive $2.25 billion from the Dems stimulus package, that after originally the House Appropriations Committee approved $802 million, an increase of almost three fold. What's of importance pertaining to this, uhh hmm, Change, is that the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee is the father of the National Parks Conversation Association's chief lobbyist.
No, not this one.

Congratulations on getting "Malkanized" with a link from Michelle Malkin today.

P.S. I wonder how much of that homeless and housing assistance is going to pay off ACORN?
You clearly took the context of the Coast Gaurd's portion of the bill to further your own agenda. The $572,500,000 you speak of is clearly not intended to create 1,234 high paying jobs but to improve several ongoing and needed programs. I for one (as a fellow blogger and on my own accord) would appreciate a retraction on your specific statement as it puts the Coast Guard in a bad light and is outright wrong.
You also made Ms. Michelle Malkin look the fool as she quoted you also without reading the text of the bill herself.

Mr. Erickson,
In what way did I take the portion of this post concerning the Coast Guard out of context? I did not, by any means, suggest that this money was to pay for "high paying" jobs.
My issue is the fact that this legislation is done in the name of "creating jobs". Therefore, as a taxpayer myself, I'd like to see the efficiency in this "job creation package".
Therefore, the numbers crunch down to the government spending $460K to create each new job the Coast Guard predicts it will create from these requested tax dollars.
I have nothing against the Coast Guard. Read Limes for any bit of time and you will learn I am as pro-military as one can be. My issue is the efficiency of this spending.
What is wrong with the current Coast Guard budget? Why do they need another $570 million?
